Law Abiding Citizen

My wife and I just watched this movie last night.  I must say, I didn't expect the movie to be this good. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed it so.

This movie stars Gerrard Butler and Jamie Foxx.

Gerrard Butler plays a character that's had his family brutally killed and wanted justice.  Jamie Foxx plays a deputy district attorney that accepted the plea bargain for one of the perpetrators of the crimes committed against Butler's character.  Butler decides that a little vigilante justice is necessary to settle the score.

I definitely recommend this one, but I must caution that it does scenes not appropriate for the younger audience.

Caveman

Ringo Starr (yes, the Beatle), Dennis Quaid, and Shelley Long star in this comedy set in the stone age.  It's about a man who obsessed with another man's woman, yet seeks her attention even if it spells his doom.

I enjoyed this one wholeheartedly as a youth and can't wait to share a viewing with my kids.

It has some suggestive material and sexual overtones from what I can remember and may not be appropriate for the youngest of children.

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

If you enjoy spoof movies, you'll like this one.  If you don't enjoy those types of flicks, you should give this one a chance.  It's offensive to everyone, attempting to not leave out any ethnic groups.

Sure it's ridiculous at times, but it's also enjoyable and you'll find yourself laughing at some of the most outrageous situations the characters find themselves in.  The Wayans brothers did a great job with this one and it remains one of my favorite comedies.

Bubba Ho-Tep

If you have not seen this, you have really missed out on a diamond in the rough. Found often in bargain bins everywhere, Bubba Ho-Tep is in my opinion Bruce Campbell's best acting effort.

You really need to see this.  Once you do, I'm sure you'll be recommending it to everyone that you know.

Brewster's Millions

Find out how becoming wealthy can be a huge burden.  This is just what Brewster is going to do.

Legendary comedians Richard Pryor and John Candy star in this delightful comedy about an ordinary man who has the opportunity to become insanely rich or lose everything in the process, including his long-time friend.

Superman Doomsday

Superman Doomsday is an animation based on the Death of Superman comic story arc.  Although not totally on par with the comic story, it does do a very good job of telling the story of Superman's most arduous battle.

The battle between Superman and the alien villain could be the end to Superman.  Who will take his place?  Find out who steps up to fill the big red shoes in this animation that is geared more for the adult audience.

G-Force

This is one of those CG-animated and Live Action hybrid movies.  I was hesitant to watch this one, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It is highly recommended and can be viewed by the entire family.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This is one of those cerebral movies that really makes you think and wonder.  I really enjoyed this movie and it's odd story.

This movie stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.

Curly Sue

This is a family movie about a single father struggling to raise his daughter and having to be creative in providing for the two of them.

This movie stars Jim Belushi.

Young Einstein

This is a humorous take on a fictional life of Albert Einstein and his quest to brew good old fashioned beer.  This is a fun movie and enjoyable for the young and old alike.

This movie stars a forgotten comedian by the name of Yahoo Serious.

The World's Fastest Indian

This is a movie based on the story of Burt Monroe, a motorcycle enthusiast who races his Indian motorcycle for a land speed record.  This movie stars the always entertaining Anthony Hopkins.

This is truly a great story about a man that beats the odds and overcomes many obstacles to pursue his dreams.  You'll be amazed as to what Burt went through in order to find himself in America by way of New Zealand.

The Toy

Here's another great flick from my childhood.  This one stars the late and great Richard Pryor and the late and great Jackie Gleason.  I was ecstatic to find this one in a bargain bin.

Sit back and prepare your sides for some splitting with this classic comedy about a young rich boy who wants to own a black man in the form of comedian Richard Pryor.

The Iron Giant

This is one of my favorite animations of all time.  It can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Vin Diesel lends his voice to the giant robot, while Jennifer Aniston and Harry Connick Jr. voice two of the adult human characters.

Sit down with the kids and enjoy this classic from the late 90s.

Gladiator

Nope.  Not the movie starring Russel Crowe, but a movie about a boxer who fights in an underground fighting club to earn money.

This movie stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Brian Dennehy.

Heaven Can Wait

Heaven Can Wait is another one of those classic films from my youth.  This one stars Warren Beatty. His character was riding a bike and was involved in an accident.  Once in heaven, he was told that it wasn't his time.  He would soon be sent back to earth, but not to his former body.  Unfortunately, he would have to take the life of another man.  During his new life, he has to overcome new obstacles that would be foreign to him.

Watch it if you haven't seen it.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Eight Legged Freaks

This is a B movie gone horribly right.  It's well done and a very fun watch.

David Arquette is great in his starring role.  If you like campy movies of giant bugs and the like, reminiscent of those old black-and-whites, you'll love this one.  It maintains that nostalgic feeling of those movies that we've grown up with and keeps us entertained.

The Dream Team

This is a great movie about a group of mental patients who, led by a character played by Michael Keaton, take a field trip away from the hospital.  The dysfunctional group manage to bond while creating some humorous disorder.  This is another one of those classic movies from the 80s.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

This is a family animation that is very well executed.  I loved the story, character design, and acting.  You and your children will love this one and it's available in the instant queue for your immediate enjoyment.

Big Trouble

I cannot stress enough how great this movie is.  This is one of those rare gems that sneaked by, while others were getting all of the media attention.

This movie has an all-star cast:  Tim Allen, Rene Russo, Stanley Tucci, Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville, Dennis Farina, Patrick Warburton, and many more.

Black Dynamite

This is a spoof of blaxploitation movies.  It's really well done and I loved the intentional editing goofs, 70's film style rendering, and humorous storyline.  You don't have to be black to enjoy this movie.

This movie stars Michael Jai White of Spawn fame.

The Big Lebowski

Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, and John Turturro make up the comical cast of this brilliantly written and quality acting cast.  Even Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers fame has a small role.

I highly recommend this movie for some laughs and a great surreal music video.

Beavis and Butthead Do America

I know that many of the ladies aren't particularly fond of this one, my wife included, but I have to suggest this to anyone who has not seen it.  It truly is a laugh-out-loud movie.

Bad Boys

No, this isn't the movie starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.  This is the movie that starred Sean Penn, a troubled youth that found himself in juvenile hall.  During his stay, he has to defend himself and does so in some very interesting ways.

If you haven't seen this 1983 masterpiece, you owe it to yourself to nuke that bag of popcorn, get yourself something cool to drink, and find a nice comfortable spot to relax and enjoy this movie.

Die Hard With a Vengeance

This is another Die Hard movie starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeromy Irons.  I have enjoyed all of the movies in this series and recommend them to anyone who hasn't seen them.  This is the third installment of the action-packed series.

Zombieland

Zombieland is a great, quirky zombie comedy.  This movie stars Woody Harrelson as a serious zombie annihilation machine in search of Twinkies. Bill Murray makes a cameo as himself.

This is a great off-beat zombie flick.

Dexter

Dexter is a Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall.  It's the story of a police department's blood splatter expert who is also a serial killer. The one thing that stands out is that Dexter is a killer of killers.  That's right, he kills other killers and not-so-good people.  I caution that this show is extremely suspenseful.

Catch the first season in the Instant Queue.

The Shawshank Redemption

This is one of those great prison movies that does not have to remind us of the male-on-male romps that other shows force upon us.  This is a tasteful story of a man who may have been wrongly imprisoned and his struggle to be freed.

This movie stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, based on a story by Stephen King.

The IT Crowd

My first recommendation is for a British comedy series about an I.T. group.  This group is comprised of a couple of off-beat socially inept computer helpdesk/technicians and an unqualified female placed in the awkward position of managing the team.  This group manages to get into funny situations all while trying desperately to be normal.

Do yourself a favor and catch one of the seasons available - they are currently filming the third season.
